Sneak peak: to be continued...

Het was een poosje stil op Girly & Geeky, en daar heb ik - uiteraard - een goede verklaring voor: mijn allerlaatste examens van dit jaar komen eraan! Morgen moet ik nog één dagje knallen, zodat ik helemaal ready ben voor het examen van maandag. Twee dagen later heb ik er nog eentje, en dan is het... VAKANTIE! Ik heb tal van plannen voor de zomer, waarover ik jullie gauw wat meer moet vertellen. Om jullie toch nog quasi te entertainen heb ik vandaag een sneak peak voor jullie in petto, van de shoot die ik deed toen het kermis was op het Vrijthof in Maastricht. TO BE CONTINUED!

ENGLISH: It has been quiet for some time on Girly & Geeky, and I - of course - have a good reason for this: my very last exams of the year are coming up! Tomorrow I need to study super hard again, in order to make sure that I'm ready to rock the exam on Monday. Two days later I have another one, and then it's time for... SUMMER HOLIDAYS! I have tons of plans for the summer, about which I need to tell you guys more soon. To still keep you guys quasi-entertained, I have a sneak peak for today from the shoot that I did when the carrousel was on the Vrijthof in Maastricht. TO BE CONTINUED!

A touch of pink

Zoals de meesten onder jullie waarschijnlijk al wel weten werk ik bij Hollister. Op het werk draag ik uiteraard altijd kleding die we ook in de winkel verkopen. Er is één nadeel aan werken in een kledingwinkel: je ziet precies wat er altijd binnenkomt. Het is dan ook heel moeilijk om aan het eind van je werkdag met lege handen naar huis te gaan. Het gebeurt vaak genoeg dat ik na mijn shift toch nog even snel "dat ene shirtje" ga afrekenen. Zo gebeurde het ook met de kimono die we een poosje geleden in de winkel hadden hangen. Ik kon het gewoon niet laten! 

ENGLISH: Most of you probably already know that I work at Hollister. At work I of course always wear clothes that we sell in the store. But there's one big disadvantage of working a clothing store: you always see the new items coming in. This makes it extremely hard to go home with empty hands at the end of your workday. It happened often enough that I decided to buy "just this one shirt" after spending a day at work. This is exactly what happened as well when my eye fell on this kimono that we recently had in the store. I just couldn't help it!

De kimono was overigens niet m'n enige nieuwe item, ook de roze tas is spiksplinternieuw, van Accessorize! Ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik 'm nog niet zo vaak gedragen heb, aangezien het weer de laatste dagen wat minder was en ik 'm daarom net wat te zomers vond. Normaal heb ik altijd een bruin of zwart lederen tas bij me. Een fel kleurtje als roze is dus iets nieuws voor mij, maar het leek me wel gaaf om toch een wat opvallendere tas te hebben. Maakt elke saaie outfit toch meteen een stuk fleuriger. Wat vinden jullie van mijn nieuwe items?

ENGLISH: Not only the kimono was brand new when I took these pictures, so was the pink bag! It's from Accessorize. I have to admit that I didn't wear it a lot of times yet, since the weather was not that good the last couple of days, and then I thought this bag would be a little bit too overwhelming in this grey weather. Usually I always have a brown or black leather bag with me. A bright colour such as pink is something completely new for me, but still I thought it would be cool to have some "eyecatcher" bag. Instantly makes every boring outfit a lot more interesting. How do you guys like my new items?

De vliegtickets liggen klaar en de campings zijn geboekt en dus is het tijd om zomerkleren aan te schaffen! We zitten nog in het voorjaar dus is er nog genoeg tijd om het perfecte zomerjurkje te scoren. Hier volgen een paar leuke items die echt mee moeten op vakantie.

Bikinitrends 

Wat is een must om mee te nemen op reis? Je bikini! En dan natuurlijk in de nieuwste trend. Printbikini’s zagen we vorig jaar al maar zijn ook nu weer helemaal in. Ga voor stijlvol zwart-wit gestreept of kies een geometrisch patroon. Of wat dacht je van een bloemetjesprint? Die stijl is niet meer uit de winkels weg te krijgen. Wil je liever één kleur maar toch iets bijzonders? De effen kleurtjes met ruches, kwastjes en franjes zien we veel deze zomer. Met al die soorten en maten vind je vast wel iets voor jou. Nu alleen nog niet vergeten mee te nemen. 

Jaren zeventig boho-stijl 

Ook leuk op vakanties is de bohemianlook. Dat houdt in: bloemenkransen, spijkerjasjes, zomerse hoedjes en wijde kleurrijke shirts. Voor de iets koelere dagen hebben we maxi-rokken of wijde broeken met prints. Is het echt heet? Knip een high-waist short af en laat de franjes zitten. Draag er een wijd gekleurd shirt bij en je bent helemaal boho. Vergeet hierbij vooral je accessoires niet. Een Ray Ban zonnebril is echt onmisbaar, maar een grove bruine leren tas en bijpassend smartphonehoesje kunnen ook niet ontbreken. Koop een Sony Xperia E1 Dual met bloemenprint of bruin leer. Jouw outfit is compleet! 

Checklist strandvakantie 

Wat heb je nodig voor een strandvakantie? Bikini met bloemenprint: check. Badhanddoek: check. Ray-Ban: check. Oordopjes: check. Vooral dat laatste is onmisbaar bij een dagje zonnebaden. Een dutje in de zon is heerlijk, maar daarbij wil je je wel kunnen afsluiten van de buitenwereld. Met een zacht muziekje op komt dat helemaal goed. Ook heel handig voor de strandvakantie: een Huawei Ascend P6s hoesje met standaard Dan is je toestel perfect beschermd en kun je zelf lekker filmpjes kijken. 

De kledingvoorraad is aangevuld, bikini’s zijn besteld en de tablet zit in een mooi hoesje. Kom maar op met die vakantie!

Summer breeze

Ik kwam er vandaag achter dat ik nog een outfit op Curaçao had gefotografeerd, maar dat ik deze nog niet online had geplaatst. Nou ja, "outfit", veel kleding kwam er niet aan te pas, want het gaat hier om een strandoutfit. Dit droeg ik tijdens een van mijn laatste daagjes chillen op Curaçao, bij Kokomo Beach...

ENGLISH: Today I discovered I actually still took pictures from a different outfit on Curaçao, but that I didn't post them online yet. Well... "outfit"... there was not that much clothing involved, since today's post is about a beach outfit. This is what I wore on one of my last days on Curaçao, chilling at Kokomo Beach...

Toen ik vanmorgen wakker werd en de zonnestralen door mijn raam zag komen, wist ik gewoon dat dit de perfecte dag zou zijn voor deze post: WAT EEN DAG! Ik ga mijn dag in ieder geval zo zonnig mogelijk invullen. Dadelijk eventjes naar de gym, daarna tennissen, vanavond sushi en hopelijk tussendoor nog even chillen in het park... Can't wait!

ENGLISH: When I woke up this morning and saw the sun coming through my window, I just knew that this would be the perfect day for this post: WHAT A DAY! I'm gonna fill in my day as sunny as possible: will hit the gym later, play some tennis, have sushi tonight and hopefully still find some time in between to chill in the park... Can't wait!

Daisy days

Ondertussen lijkt het alweer een poosje geleden sinds ik voor het laatst een post online heb geplaatst. Ik ben inmiddels weer terug in Nederland. Van zodra mijn vliegtuig de bodem van ons koude kikkerlandje raakte stond me een strakke planning te wachten. Naar m'n gevoel heb ik een week lang van het een naar het andere gerend, en heb nu ein-de-lijk een gaatje gevonden om weer iets te posten. Vandaag heb ik voor jullie een nieuwe hairdo in petto, die ik uitprobeerde bij mijn zusje Kim...

ENGLISH: It feels like it's ages ago since I posted for the last time. Meanwhile I'm back in the Netherlands again. As soon as my plane touched Dutch soil, a tight schedule was waiting for me. I have the feeling I've been running from one appointment to the next, all week long, but now I finally found some time to post something again. Today I have a new hairdo for you guys, that I tried on my little sister Kim...

Het is een ontzettend eenvoudig kapsel, maar toch ziet het er heel erg leuk uit. Dit komt natuurlijk voornamelijk door de madeliefjes! Ik vond deze madeliefjes-elastiek bij Primark voor niet meer dan 2 euro, en kon 'm dan ook niet laten liggen. Vond het een superleuk cadeautje voor mijn zusje. In de knot zit overigens zo'n haardonut verstopt. Zo ziet het er toch een tikkie ballerina uit. Wat vinden jullie ervan?

ENGLISH: It such an easy hairdo, but that doesn't make it any less cuteer. The cuteness is of course all in the daisies! I found this daisy rubber band at Primark for only 2 euros, so I couldn't resist buying it - of course. I thought it would be the perfect gift for my sister. We used a hair donut in the knot, so now it looks a bit more "ballerina". What do you guys think of it?

Coachella baby

Vorig weekend vond The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival weer plaats, of kortweg Coachella Festival. Net zoals Tomorrowland hebben zij dit jaar ook weer een tweede weekend ingelast, dus het is nog lang niet over met de pret: dit weekend vindt de hele gekte wederom plaats in California! Tijdens het festival doet iedereen altijd ontzettend z'n best om zich uit te dossen, waarbij de rode draad door alle outfits is in mijn ogen toch wel de hippie / bohemian look. Hieronder een selectie van mijn favorieten uit de editie van vorig weekend... 

ENGLISH: Last weekend The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival took place, or in short: Coachella Festival. Just like Tomorrowland they also have two festival weekends this year, so the party isn't over yet: this weekend the madness will take place all over again in California! During the festival everyone always tries surprisingly hard to dress well, with the hippie / bohemian look as a red thread through all the outfits. Here is a selection of my favorites from last week's edition...

Blijkbaar was ik niet de enige die deze rode draad had opgemerkt, want mijn zusje zag op Instagram ook allerlei celebrities voorbij komen, en vroeg zich hardop af: is het verplicht of zo om er als een ontzettende hippie bij te lopen op dat festival? Uiteraard niet expliciet, maar het lijkt wel een van de ongeschreven regels te zijn. Zelf heb ik er niks op tegen, want ik vind het er over het algemeen erg vet uitzien: dromerige maxi dresses, high-waisted shorts, crop tops, stoere laarzen, afgetrapte sneakers, hoedjes, maar vooral heel veel accessoires! 

Wat me overigens ook opviel was dat veel mensen hun blouse rond hun middel knoopten. Ik zie dit de laatste tijd steeds vaker voorbij komen en plaatste een poosje geleden ook al een outfit online met een blouse rond mijn middel (klik hier!). Als je er bij nadenkt is het ook hartstikke praktisch: wanneer het nog wat frisser is hou je 'm aan, en van zodra je lekker op gang bent en het zweet je uitbreekt knoop je 'm om je middel. Ideaal voor een festival!

Mijn favoriete look is de derde outfit van het bovenste rijtje. In zoiets zou je mij ook kunnen aantreffen, dan wel met sneakers in plaats van booties. Gelukkig duurt het nog eventjes voordat Tomorrowland plaatsvindt, dus ik heb nog zeeën van tijd om na te denken wat ik tijdens het festival kan dragen. Spannend!

ENGLISH: Apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed this "red thread",  because when my sister checked out her favorite celebrities on Instagram, she wondered aloud: is it obligated to look like an incredible hippie at that festival? Of course this is not an explicit rule, but it looks like it's one of the unwritten rules that people just know. I'm not against it, because I think this style looks really cool in general: dreamy maxi dresses, high-waisted shorts, crop tops, heavy boots, worn-out sneakers, hats, but most importantly lots of accessories! 

What I also noticed was that surprisingly many people knot their blouse around their waist. I see this more and more lately. I have also posted an outfit with a blouse around my waist online some time ago (click here!). Actually it's super practical if you think about it: when it's a bit more chilly you still wear it, but as soon as you start to get going and you start sweating you knot it around your waist. Perfect for a festival!

My favorite look is the third outfit from the upper row. This would be an outfit you could find me in, but then with sneakers instead of booties. Luckily Tomorrowland is not here yet, so I still have plenty of time to think about what to wear at the festival. Exciting!

Kingsday 2014: the look

Een tijdje terug vroeg Zalando me of ik het leuk zou vinden om een koningsdagoutfit - wilde bijna Koninginnedag zeggen, kan er nog steeds niet aan wennen! - samen te stellen met items uit de shop en deze jullie te showen. Dat hoef je mij geen twee keer te vragen! Ik kamde de volledige webshop uit en stelde na lang twijfelen onderstaande outfit samen...

ENGLISH: Some time ago Zalando asked me if I wanted to compose a Kingsday outfit - I almost wanted to say Queensday again... I just can't get used to it! - with items from the shop, and show the result to you guys. Of course I didn't really have to think about that: of course! I went through almost all items in the webshop, and after much doubting I ended up with the following outfit...

"Ik zie helemaal geen oranje?!" Klopt. De afgelopen jaren heb ik telkens trouw Koninginnedag gevierd in een oranje tenue met oranje toeters, hoedjes en andere gekke accessoires, maar toen ik vorig jaar op festival Loveland was en verrassend weinig mensen in onze vaderlandskleur zag, viel ik toch wel een beetje uit de boot. Zodoende heb ik besloten het dit jaar anders te doen! Zeker voor ons - als generation Y'ers - bestaat Koningsdag vooral uit losgaan op een festival, dus koos ik dit jaar voor een - ja hoor - festivaloutfit! 

Ik weet zelf nog niet 100% zeker naar welk festival ik wil gaan, want heb nog steeds geen kaartjes gekocht. (Waarschijnlijk als enige van heel Nederland, haha.) Ik wilde het allerliefste naar Kingsland Festival, maar helaas is dat inmiddels uitverkocht, dus ik denk dat het nu Kingsday Festival gaat worden. Ook niet verkeerd natuurlijk.

Om af te sluiten wil ik jullie ook nog even attent maken op de actie die Zalando nu organiseert i.v.m. Koningsdag. Hier kun je namelijk je eigen koningsdagoutfit samenstellen met items uit de shop! Niet alleen perfect om de nodige inspiratie op te doen, maar je maakt ook nog eens kans op een gift voucher van € 250 of een van de drie giftvouchers van € 100. Dat is wel een poging waard, of niet soms?! PS. Vergeet niet out-of-the-box te denken! Oranje is so last year. ;)

ENGLISH: "I can't see anything orange?!" True. Up until now I've always celebrated Queensday in an orange outfit with orange horns, hats and other crazy accessories. However, when I was at Loveland festival last year, I almost didn't see anyone in orange. I didn't really fit in. That's why I decided to do it differently this year! Especially since for us - as generatoin Y'ers - Kingsday mostly means partying like crazy on a festival, I decided to go for a - you can probably already guess it - festival outfit this year!

I'm not 100% sure myself which festival I want to go to, because I still didn't buy any tickets. (Probably I'm the only one in the Netherlands who didn't do it yet, haha.) I actually really wanted to go to Kingsland Festival, but unfortunately that one is already sold out by now. My next-best-option was Kingsday Festival, so I think it's gonna be that one. Also not that bad of course.

Before wrapping up I wanted to tell you guys about the initiative that Zalando organizes for Kingsday. You can compose your favorite Kingsday outfit here with items from the shop! Come on let's twist again

Gisteren zat mijn zusje Kim wat aan mijn haar te frutselen, en vroeg me of ze een speciale vlecht in mijn haar mocht maken. Of course! Het is zeg maar een twisted vlecht waarvoor je maar twee strengen haar nodig hebt. Ze had het zelf geleerd van een van haar vriendinnetjes hier op Curaçao, dus ik had geen flauw idee of er een officiële naam voor was. Na wat nader onderzoek kwam ik erachter dat 'ie eigenlijk de "rope braid" heet. En je doet het zo:

ENGLISH: Yesterday my little sister Kim was playing a bit with my hair, when she asked me if she could make a special braid in my hair. Of course! It was kind of a "twisted braid", for which you only need two parts of the hair instead of three. She learned how to do it from one of her girlfriends here on Curaçao, so I had no clue if there was an official name for this braid. After some research I found out it's actually called the "rope braid". And it works like this:

Eerst kam je het haar mooi glad, zodat er geen klitten meer in zitten en het makkelijker is om mee te werken. Vervolgens split je het haar in twee delen, die je beiden in dezelfde richting "twist". En dan is het slechts een kwestie van de twee delen in elkaar te twisten. Ik had eerlijk gezegd verwacht dat alles meteen weer los zou laten van zodra je er een elastiekje rond zou doen, maar het bleef verrassend goed zitten!

Omdat mijn haar niet 100% overal even lang is kwamen er soms wat sprietjes uit, maar dit kan je makkelijk verhelpen door het haar van tevoren een beetje nat te maken en af te werken met haarspray. Op foto 5 zie je de vlecht in het midden hangen, wat net iets makkelijker was voor de foto, maar in real life is het een stuk mooier en minder vreemd om de vlecht iets losser te maken en 'm over je schouder te vlechten. 

Wat overigens ook leuk is: als je aan het eind van de dag de vlecht eruit haalt heb je een mooie bos beachy waves, dus twee gave hairstyles op één dag!

ENGLISH: First you comb your hair, to make sure it's 100% untangled, which makes it easier to work with. Then you split the hair in two halves, that you both twist in the same direction. And then it's just a matter of twisting those two parts with eachother. I actually expected that everything would disappear immediately after you tie it with a rubber band, but surprisingly enough everything was still intact!

Because of the fact that my hair doesn't have 100% the same length everywhere, you can see some frizzy hairs coming out of the braid. You can easily avoid this by making your hair a bit wet before you start and to make sure to finish with a hairspray. On the fifth picture, you can see that the braid is made in the middle (because this was easier for the pictures), but in real life it's way prettier and less strange to loosen the braid a bit and drape it over one of your shoulders.

Fun fact: when you remove the rubber band from the braid at the end of the day, you'll see you have gorgeous beachy waves. Two cool hairstyles on one day!

Beach hair don't care

Ondertussen ben ik alweer een weekje op Curaçao. Time flies! Dat houdt dus ook in dat ik alweer op de helft van mijn vakantie ben... noooooo! Maar goed, ik heb er tot nu toe wel alles uitgehaald wat erin zat. Het oorspronkelijke plan voor vandaag was om een tocht te maken met een groot zeilschip naar een schipwrak en een verlaten baai op Curaçao, maar vanwege de veel te sterke wind ging het niet door en moesten we terugvallen op plan B. En zo eindigden we vanmiddag bij Kokomo Beach, een van mijn favoriete stranden op het eiland...

ENGLISH: Meanwhile I'm already on Curaçao for 7 days now, to be precise. Time flies! This implies that I'm almost halfway my vacation... But well, up until I was lucky to have my days filled with tons of awesome (ultra-tourist) activities. The original plan for today was to go on a boattrip in a big sailing ship and sail to a ship wreck and a deserted bay somewhere on Curaçao, but because of the strong wind we had to come up with a plan B. Eventually we ended up at Kokomo Beach, one of my favorite beaches on the island...

On the road

Ik heb het jullie nog niet expliciet verteld, maar al wie mij op Instagram volgt had het vast al langer in de gaten: ik ben weer op Curaçao! Ik ben maandagavond aangekomen op Hato, het vliegveld van Curaçao. Dat betekent dat ik inmiddels al twee dagen achter de rug heb! Gisteren besloten we een roadtrip te maken naar Westpunt en het Christoffel National Park van Curaçao. #becausewecan

ENGLISH: I didn't tell you guys yet, but whoever follows me on Instagram probably already noticed: I'm back on Curaçao! I landed Monday night on Hato, the international (and only) airport from Curaçao. That means that I already spent two full days on my all time favorite island! Yesterday we decided to go on a road trip to Westpunt and the Christoffel National Park of Curaçao. #becausewecan

Als je mijn blog al langer volgt heb je waarschijnlijk al veel kanten van het eiland gezien, maar ik besefte onlangs dat ik jullie vooral overstelp met foto's van parelwitte stranden en palmbomen. Daarom leek het me ook wel leuk om te tonen dat het eiland ook een heel andere kant heeft: met rotsen, ruige golven en een dorre bodem. Zo ook het Christoffel National Park. Een echte aanrader als je eens op Curaçao bent, met als hoogtepunt Boka Pistol: een waterspuwende inham in een van de rotsen. Erg indrukwekkend! Na het Christoffel National Park gingen we uiteraard nog verder met onze roadtrip, naar wat men "het mooiste strand van Curaçao" noemt. Daarover later meer!

ENGLISH: In case you have been following my blog for a longer time, you've probably seen various sides of the island already, but today I realized I overwhelmed you most of the time with pictures of crystal clear water and palm trees. That's why I thought it would be fun to show you also a completely different side of Curaçao: with rocks, cliffs, rough waves and an arid soil. Like in the Christoffel National Park! A must see when you are on Curaçao. The main highlight is Boka Pistol: a cove in a cliff that launches a huge fountain of water every 20 seconds (more or less). Impressive! After the Christoffel National Park, we of course continued our road trip to what they call "the most beautiful beach of Curaçao". To be continued!

Be there or be square

Een poosje terug ontving ik een mailtje van Accessorize met daarin de vraag of ik als blogger eventueel als VIP - olala - hun zogenaamde "Ladies Day & Night" zou willen bijwonen. Ik had er ontzettend graag bij willen zijn, maar helaas ben ik tijdens het evenement niet in Nederland, maar op Curaçao! Ook niet zo'n straf natuurlijk. Het leek me echter wel zo leuk jullie nog steeds op de hoogte te brengen van het event...

Tijdens de Ladies Day & Night staat alles in het teken van fun: de winkel is extra mooi aangekleed, je wordt persoonlijk ontvangen door het personeel, er geldt een unieke dagaanbieding, er worden goodiebags uitgedeeld (!) en... je kunt elke 2 uur ontzettend gave prijzen winnen! Daarnaast zorgt elke winkel voor een extra activiteit. Zo kun je in Amsterdam bijvoorbeeld polaroid foto's maken samen met je vriendinnen, terwijl je in andere winkels dan weer aan een gave hairdo-workshop kunt deelnemen. Kortom: genoeg te doen! Dus zit jij wel gewoon in Nederland en denk je je morgen te vervelen? Sounds like you just got a plan!
