SINGAPORE: the report

And guess what... I LOVED IT.

ENGLISH: As you all know I've been to Singapore this summer. A city - no, in fact: a country - about which I have been told already so much. In the beginning of September it was finally my turn to "experience" the city. It was my last stop after four weeks of travelling in Thailand, just before I would go back home again. And guess what... I LOVED IT.

ENGLISH: My stay in Singapore was arranged and offered by Ibis. I stayed on Bencoolen Street, in the heart of the Singaporean city center. After spending multiple weeks in lots of different hostel beds, this super comfortable bed with soft pillows was more than welcome. I immediately jumped on the bed after I put my backpack on the floor... BEST FEELING EVER. After I felt like I had some energy again, I saw that there were a little box of macarons and a bottle of wine on the table. (Secretly I ate the entire box at once, but ssst... don't tell!)

WAUW.

ENGLISH: I spent my time in Singapore with friend Lisa, who was also participating in the International Case Competition. She already arrived one day before me in Singapore, and it didn't take long before Lisa (+ luggage) knocked on my door. At night we decided to go out, because it was a Friday night. The big question was, however: where should we go? In Singapore there's so many cool clubs to go to! Luckily we got a smartphone with outr room (yes, indeed!), on which a special app was installed that told us everything about Singapore: from cosy restaurants to must-see sights to fancy clubs. After a while we made the decision to go to 1Altitude: the highest sky bar in Singapore! From the rooftop of the club, we had a fantastic view on the Marina Bay Sands... WOW.

ENGLISH: There was no time for a hangover the next day, because it was time to go sightseeing! After a delicious breakfast - with basically everything: croissants, chocolate buns, Thai curry, and American pancakes, you name it! - we decided to go into the city. In the hotel lobby, there was a huge screen on which you could easily check what was going on in the surroundings of the hotel. Just by pushing one button, you could print out the directions and the map of your destination of choice, super practical! We refilled our glass LoveEarth bottles with fresh water (with sparkles!), to make sure that we would have some refreshment when we would come back to the hotel later. Way more ecological instead of buying a brand new plastic bottle every time!

Onze eerste sight van de dag waren the Gardens at the Bay.

ENGLISH: Our first sight of the day were the Gardens at the Bay. A really interesting construction, as you can see on the pictures underneath. Lisa and me were impressed by these green, futuristic beauties. And that's in the middle of the city!

ENGLISH: Then we went back to our hotel to have lunch. Luckily we took our smartphone that we got with the room, so that we could make use of the 3G network that was included - thank god! - that helped us finding our way back to our hotel even faster. In the direct surroundings of the hotel, there were a lot of things going on. First of all, the Hungry Ghost Festival was taking place, during which all different kind of food specialties were sold. We also made a little biking tour on some kind of riksja, that gave us a tour through different areas such as Little India and Arab Street.

ENGLISH: After all the sightseeing, it was time for... shopping! In Singapore there are so many malls. Unfortunately I had to stick to Forever 21 and H&M, but in case you're wallet can handle a bit more, Singapore is like paradise. Especially the mall of the Marina Bay Sands was really impressive: there were gondolas in the mall! How crazy is that?!

ENGLISH: Luckily, there were also some more affordable stores in the area of our hotel. We really liked to peek into all the small Chinese store, close to subway station Bugis. I bought tons of cool gifts and souvenirs there. I could really recommend that!

Fantastisch!

ENGLISH: Here Lisa is resting a little at the bar of the hotel, after a day full of shopping and sightseeing. This was the same area like the area where the breakfast was served daily. But there was not a lot of time to chill, because that night we were going out again. This time we decided to go to the Gardens by the Bay again, to check it out in the dark... beautiful! We also decided to use the elevator and go up to the highest floor of the Marina Bay Sands, where we enjoyed a stunning view over the entire city from the sky bar. Fantastic!

Inmiddels was ons laatste dagje alweer aangebroken...

ENGLISH: After that, it was already our very last day... It was about time to get started with the case competition! In the morning we went for a quick bike ride with the bamboo bikes, which you can use for free being a guest of the hotel. We ate a little something in a small restaurant where we connected with the locals, and went to the Marina Bay Sands for one very last time.

ENGLISH: In Singapore I stayed in the Ibis Singapore on Bencoolen Street. The cool thing about this hotel was that it was not just a standard hotel, but that it had tons of cool features. These are usually there for all guests, but we even enjoyed some extras because we had a room with "extra benefits". We could for example use the local gym for free. That's what we decided to do on our very last morning. You immediately feel at home, doing sports in between all the locals! Furthermore, I also really liked the smartphone with 3G and the handy Ibis app, the enormous breakfast offerings, the bamboo bikes, the refillable water bottles, the super nice service, the screen in the lobby, you name it! I really enjoyed my time over there.

As you can see I had the time of my life in Singapore. And I can't even complain, because in less than three months I will be there again! I will make a short stop in Singapore on my way to Sydney for a couple of days. I'm already looking forward!

I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world

Barbie! Benieuwd hoe dat eruit ziet?

ENGLISH: I haven't written about any fashion show in a long time, but when I saw the Spring/Summer 2015 collection of Moschino for the first time, I knew it for sure: I HAD to write about this. Designer Jeremy Scott inspired himself for this collection on none other than... Barbie! Curious what that looks like?

Leuk of toch een beetje too much?

ENGLISH: Last time Spongebob Squarepants seemed to be the main inspiration, but this time it is something completely different. The cool thing about this collection is that it's so playful, and that it somehow mocks with the standard "Barbie" image (with which no one wants to be associated... at least till now). My favorites from the collection are definitely the iPhone case that looks like a Barbie mirror (for real!) and the purse that looks like a folded pink leather jacket... must have! What do you guys think of this collection? Cool, or just a little bit too much?

Sawadika... off to Asia!

Grootse plannen dus! CAN'T WAIT!

ENGLISH: Some time ago you could already read about my big Asia plans for this summer, and now the moment is finally there: today I'm flying to Bangkok! From thereI will start my biggest adventure ever: first we will take our time to discover the Thai metropole a bit, and then we will participate in the Thamassat Undergraduate Business Challenge from Thamassat University (a university in Bangkok). After that I will travel (solo!) a couple of weeks through the country. Where I end up is one big questionmark, because I'm planning to go with the flow and decide every day what I want to do. One thing is for sure: I will end this summer with a couple of days chilling in Singapore, followed by some serious business... the National University of Singapore Case Competition. Big plans huh! CAN'T WAIT!

I found the pictures above on the Tumblr of Janke! She is also in South East Asia at the moment, and shares the most amazing pictures. Check them all out here!

See y'all in September!

ENGLISH: I will try to keep you guys posted every once in a while, but I can't make a real estimate yet about the internet access etc. Probably you'll find most on my Instagram account @fleurpauline, so definitely keep an eye on that on. See y'all in September!

And yet another publication

Benieuwd? Lees dan gauw verder!

ENGLISH: Whilst I was on Tomorrowland, another crazy thing happened: the new edition of Fashionista magazine came out, and guess what? I was in it! This time in the category "Who wears it better?", in which Fashionista always gives two bloggers the exact same piece of clothing, in order to discover which blogger manages to combine the item the best. My picture with the end result was accompanied by a short interview. Curious? Keep on reading!

ENGLISH: I found it quite hard to find a cool, creative and original way to combine a tracksuit like this. Especially given the fact that such a tracksuit consists of one part and thus makes/breaks the outfit on its own. Luckily I did manage to find a way to give a fun twist to the jean tracksuit. However, I do have to say that Judith also combined it in a really cool way. I think it's kind of surprising to see how two different bloggers style the same item in a completely different way. From the end results on the website of Fashionista I concluded that I managed to get a slight majority of the votes with 54%, but that's of course just a tiny difference. This once more shows: there's not always just one solution, sometimes there's more alternatives!

Tomorrowland '14: the aftertalk

ENGLISH: As you could have already read earlier on, I've spent last weekend at Tomorrowland! Despite the fact that Belgium is a true festival country in general, I have to say that this one really does stand out from the crowd, at least from an international point of view. Of course I knew this already before I went to the festival, but when I saw hundreds of different flags waving in the crowd I was 100% sure: HOW COOL IS THIS?!

Ongelofelijk.

ENGLISH: I've definitely had the time of my life: from the chilled atmosphere at the camping to the unforgettable nights with Hardwell, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Tiësto, and... Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike of course! Unbelievable. The acts were always accompanied by fairytale like visuals and smashing firework shows. It all seemed so unreal, like I was in a delusional world, far far away from here! One thing's for sure: it might have been my first time on Tomorrowland, but it was definitely not my last... Can't wait till the next edition to take place!

#LOCALCELEBRITIES

ENGLISH:  Once we arrived at Tomorrowland, it seemed to take ages before we actually reached our camping spot with our tents, backpacks, chairs and tons of food and beverages. It was smoking hot outside, which is usually a true blessing, except when you carry your entire "living" on your back. (A woman in the train actually referred to me as a snail - with my house on my back!) Luckily we managed to set up our tents quite fast, and it didn't take long before we jumped into the awesome mini pool from our neighbours.

#LOCALCELEBRITIES. Voor één dagje dan. ;)

ENGLISH:  We've only been chilling there for a couple of minutes till two people from the Dreamville newspaper (the "Tomorrowland paper") came by and asked us to take a picture, in honour of the 10 year existence of Tomorrowland. They threw some gifts in the pool, gave us some strange hats and decorated the whole thing with garlands... CHEESE! Eventually we were asked to describe our current Tomorrowland feeling. And that's how we came up with this quote! Well yeah, what should I say... you have to stay original, right? #LOCALCELEBRITIES. For one day at least. ;)

Home sweet home: back from Rome

ENGLISH: Yesterday I came back from Rome! We spent five days in the city. I really enjoyed seeing the Roman history finally "in real life". I especially liked the Pantheon, that was my favourite monument. I had high expectations of the Trevi fountain, but unfortunately we couldn't see a lot from that because they were doing construction work on the fountain. A good excuse to go another time to the Italian capital in the future!

ROME, I'LL BE BACK!

ENGLISH: And last but not least: I loved everything I ate in Italy. I've always been a huge Italian food lover - pizza salami is my guilty pleasure - but this time I really enjoyed everything on my plate: bruschetta, pasta carbonara, a sandwich with mozzarella, pizza diavola, you name it! ROME, I'LL BE BACK!

Ciao bella, I'm going to Rome!

Benieuwd naar what's next?

ENGLISH: It has been a bit more quite on Girly & Geeky lately, because I was very busy celebrating the holidays! Right after I came back from Curaçao, I almost immediately left to Marbella for a 10-day getaway with my friends from high school. More about that later! Curious what's next up?

Achteraf  volgt een uitgebreid verslag... to be continued!

PS. Mochten jullie nog tips hebben... shoot!

ENGLISH: Rome has been like forever on my bucket list, and now it's finally going to happen! I think this city trip is going to extra special, because of the fact that I learned Latin for years in high school. We learned so much about Roman history back then, so I'm looking forward to finally see everything in real life. I'll provide you guys with and extensive report afterwards... to be continued!

PS. In case you have some recommendations for me... shoot!

Vibe to this

Hoe ziet jullie beachoutfit eruit?

ENGLISH: Some time ago I bumped into this picture again. I made it more or less two months ago, when I was on Curaçao last time. The outfit is not very special, but just a snapshot of what I usually wear when going to the beach. I'm not quite a proponent of caftans or sarongs. On the contrary, I prefer a normal plain jane outfit. However, I do always make sure to wear something breezy, which I can easily take off. How does your beach outfit look?

WHAT I'M WEARING:

Skirt - Shana
Top- Hollister
Bikini - Buffalo
Sunglasses - Ray-Ban

Serial chiller

Mijn favoriet? SERIAL CHILLER.

ENGLISH: Two of my favorite Instagrammers are for sure Cait and Shannon Barker, two sisters that - despite their age difference - look just alike. They live in California and consequently dress in the typical - ra ra ra - laid-back Cali style. I'm talking about high-waisted shorts and crop tops, often with a cool caption on it. Via them I ended up with Vanguard, a brand that more or less relates all its clothing items to chilling. My favorite? SERIAL CHILLER.

ENGLISH: After seeing the picture above, I already pictured myself chilling on the couch for a Netflix marathon in my Serial Chiller sweatpants. A musthave! Or what did you think of the sweater? Perfect for a legendary summer night with your friends around a bonfire, when the outside temperature slowly starts to drop. Both the sweater and the sweatpants are $ 89.95. They are also available at Urban Outfitters if I'm not mistaken!

What's going to happen in August

WAUW. Waar komen deze grootse reisplannen vandaan? Lees snel verder!

ENGLISH: This summer something crazy is going to happen: I'm going to Asia for the first time in my life! I will fly to Bangkok in the beginning of August, from where I will go backpacking through Thailand. I'll end my trip spending a couple of days in Singapore. WAUW. Where do these big travelling plans come from? Keep on reading!

Singapore

ENGLISH: As you know I'm currently studying International Business at Maastricht University. I'm still super satisfied with my choice. Actually, the longer I study there, the more clear become the opportunities that the university offers us students. One of those possibilities is the International Case Competition? What's that exactly? It is a competition in which groups of students from prestigious institutes from all around te world compete during the solving of a so-called business case. Every group consists of four students, each with their own specialties, that are sent to case competitions from universities all around the world.

Bangkok

ENGLISH: After a tough selection procedure in the beginning of this year, I was selected as one of the squad members that would represent Maastricht University worldwide. An incredible opportunity. In the second half of this academic year, we were prepared for our positions as squad members, and now the time is finally there: time for action!

Bangkok

Twee case competitions in één zomer?!

ENGLISH: Three weeks ago I received an e-mail which stated that I was elected to be part of our first international case competition: the Thamassat Undergraduate Business Challenge 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. Such an opportunity! I was over the moon. And like that wasn't enough, I heard last weekend what my second case competition will be: the one from National University of Singapore, in Singapore of course. I almost couldn't believe it. Two case competitions in one summer?!

Singapore

ENGLISH: Because the case competition in Bangkok takes place in the beginning of August, and the one from Singapore in the beginning of September, I will use the time in between both competitions to travel around in Thailand. This is something completely new for me. So it's not just my first time in Asia, my first case competition, but also the first time for me to go backpacking on my own (!). I secretly find it a bit scary, but at the same time super exciting! However, all my friends with experience keep on telling me it's all going to be fine and that it's no big deal. But still, I find it rrreally exciting. Anyway, I will of course keep you posted about the preparations of my trip, so stay tuned!

PS. In case you have any tips, recommendations or advice, feel free to let me know. You would really help me a lot with that!
