Deze zomer staat mij iets fantastisch te wachten: ik ga voor het eerst in m'n leven naar Azië! Begin augustus vlieg ik naar Bangkok, van waaruit ik een maand ga rondtrekken door Thailand. Ik eindig mijn trip met een paar dagen in Singapore. WAUW. Waar komen deze grootse reisplannen vandaan? Lees snel verder!

Singapore
Zoals jullie weten studeer ik International Business aan Maastricht University. Ik ben nog steeds heel erg blij met mijn keuze. Hoe langer ik er zit, hoe meer ik verrast word door de mogelijkheden die de universiteit ons als studenten biedt. Eén van die mogelijkheden is de International Case Competition. Wat houdt dat in? Het is zeg maar een wedstrijd waarin groepjes studenten van prestigieuze instituten van over de hele wereld het tegen elkaar opnemen tijdens het oplossen van een zogenaamde business case. Elk groepje bestaat uit vier studenten, elk met hun eigen specialiteit, die naar case competitions van universiteiten over de hele wereld trekken.
ENGLISH: As you know I'm currently studying International Business at Maastricht University. I'm still super satisfied with my choice. Actually, the longer I study there, the more clear become the opportunities that the university offers us students. One of those possibilities is the International Case Competition? What's that exactly? It is a competition in which groups of students from prestigious institutes from all around te world compete during the solving of a so-called business case. Every group consists of four students, each with their own specialties, that are sent to case competitions from universities all around the world.

Na een zware selectieprocedure aan het begin van dit jaar werd ik geselecteerd als een van de squad members die Maastricht University wereldwijd zouden gaan vertegenwoordigen. Een ongelofelijke kans. We werden in de tweede helft van dit academisch jaar klaargestoomd voor onze posities als squad members, en nu is het eindelijk zover: time for action!
ENGLISH: After a tough selection procedure in the beginning of this year, I was selected as one of the squad members that would represent Maastricht University worldwide. An incredible opportunity. In the second half of this academic year, we were prepared for our positions as squad members, and now the time is finally there: time for action!

Een drietal weken geleden ontving ik een mailtje waarin stond dat ik een van de uitverkorenen was om deel te nemen aan onze eerste international case competition: de Thamassat Undergraduate Business Challenge 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. Wat een ongelofelijke buitenkans! Ik kon mijn geluk niet op. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg was hoorde ik afgelopen weekend wat mijn tweede case competition werd: die van de National University of Singapore, in Singapore uiteraard. Ik kon mijn ogen haast niet geloven. Twee case competitions in één zomer?!
ENGLISH: Three weeks ago I received an e-mail which stated that I was elected to be part of our first international case competition: the Thamassat Undergraduate Business Challenge 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. Such an opportunity! I was over the moon. And like that wasn't enough, I heard last weekend what my second case competition will be: the one from National University of Singapore, in Singapore of course. I almost couldn't believe it. Two case competitions in one summer?!
Singapore
Omdat de case competition in Bangkok plaatsvindt in begin augustus, en die van Singapore in begin september, zal ik de periode tussen de twee competities overbruggen door rond te trekken in Thailand. Dit is iets compleet nieuws voor mij. Het wordt dus niet alleen mijn eerste keer in Azië, mijn eerste case competitions, maar ook de eerste keer dat ik in m'n ééntje (!) ga backpacken! Ik vind het stiekem heel erg spannend en weet niet goed wat me te wachten staat, al drukken tal van vrienden met ervaring me op het hart dat het allemaal goed komt en het no big deal is. Maar goed, het blijft spannend... Ik hou jullie in ieder geval op de hoogte van de voorbereidingen van mijn reis, so stay tuned!

ENGLISH: Because the case competition in Bangkok takes place in the beginning of August, and the one from Singapore in the beginning of September, I will use the time in between both competitions to travel around in Thailand. This is something completely new for me. So it's not just my first time in Asia, my first case competition, but also the first time for me to go backpacking on my own (!). I secretly find it a bit scary, but at the same time super exciting! However, all my friends with experience keep on telling me it's all going to be fine and that it's no big deal. But still, I find it rrreally exciting. Anyway, I will of course keep you posted about the preparations of my trip, so stay tuned!
