Onlangs postte een vriendin van me een foto van haar pols vol met kleurrijke bandjes op Instagram met de hashtag #hipanema. Ik vond het er ontzettend leuk uitzien, dus besloot het eens te googelen. Wat blijkt? Hipanema is een super hip merk met armbanden in alle kleuren van de regenboog, zo samengesteld dat elk model bestaat uit heel veel armbandjes die nonchalant bij elkaar geraapt lijken te zijn, maar waar stiekem heel hard over nagedacht is.... that's the trick!

And guess what? Hipanema is a super trendy brand with bracelets in every color of the rainbow. Every model consists of multiple bracelets, combined like they're just randomly put together... but actually they're not!

Het merk ontstond nadat twee jonge vrouwen uit Parijs met elkaar in contact kwamen in Rio. Ze waren dol op de Braziliaanse bandjes met hun felle kleuren en mooie kraaltjes, maar stuitten op het volgende probleem: "I love wearing lots of Brazilian bracelets but having to tie and untie them one by one till they break became a bore. After a couple of years it becomes difficult to keep wearing the old discoloured ties and it's not easy to match them with ones wardrobe." Zij zijn zeker weten niet de enige meiden met dat probleem. Ik heb het zelf namelijk ook al vaak ervaren: ik vind zulke bandjes altijd wel leuk, maar niet voor elke dag. (Stiekem was ik ook nooit zo goed in het "nonchalant" matchen van verschillende kleurtjes, maar dat even terzijde.)
Als je me zou vragen welk model ik het mooist vind, zou ik het eerlijk gezegd niet weten. Het kostte me al heel veel moeite om bovenstaande vijf bandjes te selecteren uit het volledige assortiment in de webshop van Hipanema. Het is trouwens ook leuk om meerdere bandjes met elkaar te combineren. Zoals de dames het zelf al zeggen: "plus il y en a, plus on les aime", ook wel "the more the merrier". WORD!
ENGLISH: The brand came into being after two Parisian girls met in Rio. They both loved the Brazilian bracelets with all those bright colors, pearls and seashells, but they thought something could be improved: "I love wearing lots of Brazilian bracelets but having to tie and untie them one by one till they break became a bore. After a couple of years it becomes difficult to keep wearing the old discoloured ties and it's not easy to match them with ones wardrobe." They are definitely not the only ones with that problem, I experienced it myself as well. I always really like those bracelets, but not for every day. (Secretly I was also never really good in combining all those different colors in the right way, but ssst: don't tell!)
If you would ask me which model I like the most, it would be really hard for me to make a choice. I already had a hard time selecting these five bracelets from the complete collection in the Hipanema webshop. Btw, it's also really cool to combine multiple bracelets with each other. Like the Hipanema girls said it: "plus il y en a, plus on les aime", or "the more the merrier". WORD!
